TSV Weilimdorf football — how the site came to be
Built pro bono for the TSV Weilimdorf football division. A dedicated home for parents, coaches and members alongside the club's overloaded main site.
Why this exists
I've been chairman of the football division's supporters' association at TSV Weilimdorf since 2014. The main club website is fine but tries to cover all sports at once — table tennis, gymnastics, football, all mixed. Parents wanting to know when their U8 trains can't find that in three clicks.
I wanted a site that is only football, with clear training times, team pages, a board section, and the option for non-technical coaches to update content.
Time invested
Initial build a few weekends. After that ongoing operation with occasional updates — new season, new coaches, new shirt sponsors, new dates. Volunteering means: you do it because it needs doing, not because it's fun — but the result is fun.
What worked
- Parents now know where to click. Registration per season runs online instead of via printed flyers.
- Coach profiles put a face to every team. Lower threshold for new parents.
- Board section with minutes and decisions — transparency nobody asked for previously but everyone appreciates.
What didn't
- Image consent is a privacy topic. Photographing youth teams requires parental sign-off. Took a few rounds before the workflows were clean.
- Content upkeep is volunteer-driven, so slow. Some team pages are three seasons old because nobody bothered to update.
- Getting sponsor logos in the right size and color was its own kind of fun.
Where I am now
It's been running for years, is the first stop for anyone who wants to know something about the football division, and proves that even a 1,500-member club doesn't have to live in Word documents and phone chains.
In 2026, it was renovated and given a new design.
